Custom Rugs

How does the custom rug process work?

Submit your concept or inspiration, then Thread Theory refines the artwork for tufting, prepares a digital direction, finalizes material and texture recommendations, begins production, and finishes the rug for shipping, pickup, or installation planning.

What affects pricing?

Each rug is individually tufted and priced according to artistic complexity and production time. The main factors are rug size, material selection, texture complexity, color count, sculpting or carving detail, and timeline urgency.

What rug sizes are available?

Custom work can include small accent rugs, oversized statement pieces, runners, wall hangings, irregular sculptural forms, and installation-scale textile work.

Can I submit inspiration images?

Yes. You can share sketches, Pinterest screenshots, logos, moodboards, paintings, color palettes, reference rugs, brand files, room photos, or a written concept.

How long does a custom rug take?

Most commissions are planned in a 4-8 week window after design approval. Rush and event deadlines are reviewed individually.

Can you make logo rugs?

Yes. Logo and brand rugs are available, with guidance on simplifying details so the final piece feels premium rather than overly literal.

Can highly detailed artwork be tufted?

Yes, with translation. Ultra-fine details may need simplification because tufting has physical fiber limitations. Some artwork becomes stronger when adapted into bolder shapes, clearer color fields, or carved dimensional details.

Can you help develop my idea?

Yes. Thread Theory is a creative collaborator, not only a fabricator. Concepts can be shaped through artwork refinement, scale guidance, material recommendations, and texture direction.

Can I preview the rug before production?

Yes. Custom projects can include digital renderings, color previews, texture recommendations, and rug-ready design refinement before production begins.

Can I request yarn samples?

Yes. Yarn and color samples can be requested before production so you can compare wool, acrylic, rayon / art silk, sheen, and density.

Which yarn is best for high-traffic spaces?

Quality wool and acrylic are strongest for high-traffic spaces. Wool carries the most premium natural feel; acrylic offers practical durability and color vibrancy.

What affects the final quote most?

The largest factors are yarn type, rug size, density, design complexity, carving detail, backing, timeline, shipping, and delivery needs.

Limited Drops

Are limited drop pieces one of a kind?

Most pieces are produced as one-offs or very small studio editions.

Can I reserve a rug?

Hold requests can be reviewed for serious inquiries and custom projects.

Materials

What yarn is best for tufted rugs?

Quality wool is often considered the premium all-around choice because it balances durability, softness, resilience, and natural stain resistance.

What is the difference between wool and acrylic?

Wool offers a more luxurious natural feel, rich color depth, and long-term durability. Acrylic offers affordability, vibrant color, UV resistance, and easier everyday maintenance.

How much yarn is needed for a rug?

Yarn requirements depend on rug size, density, pile height, and design complexity. Premium density rugs require more yarn than standard density rugs.

Which yarn is best for high-traffic spaces?

Quality wool and acrylic perform best for high-traffic environments, depending on the desired balance of luxury, budget, and maintenance.

Which yarn is best for luxury aesthetics?

Rayon / Art Silk creates a luminous, high-end visual finish for decorative and statement pieces.

Can I request samples?

Yes. Yarn and color samples can be requested before production so clients can compare touch, sheen, density, and color behavior.

Can rugs be cleaned?

Regular vacuuming helps maintain appearance. Professional spot cleaning is recommended, especially for wool, rayon / art silk, and premium pieces.

Can you help develop my design?

Absolutely. Thread Theory works collaboratively to transform photos, sketches, moodboards, logos, and inspiration images into production-ready rug designs.

Texture & Pile

What is cut pile?

Cut pile creates a soft, velvety surface and is ideal when comfort, smoothness, and quiet luxury are the priority.

What is loop pile?

Loop pile keeps yarn loops intact for a more textural, durable surface. It works well when a rug needs grounded tactility and everyday resilience.

What does high-low pile do?

High-low pile adds sculptural depth by varying pile height. It can create shadow, movement, and architectural relief.

When should carved detailing be used?

Carved detailing is useful for outlines, separations, graphic emphasis, and elevated art styles. It adds labor and should be planned into the quote.

Does texture affect price?

Yes. Mixed texture, high-low sculpting, and carving require additional production time and are priced as part of the rug's complexity.

Shipping

Do you ship?

Yes. Shipping is quoted by size, destination, and packaging needs.

Classes

Do I need experience?

No. Classes are designed for curious beginners and include equipment, materials, and guided technique.

Are materials included?

Yes. Each ticket includes yarn, backing cloth, use of studio tools, and finishing support.

Are private classes available?

Yes. Private workshops can be built for birthdays, couples, friend groups, wellness events, or creative teams.

Events

How much space do you need?

Most activations need a stable work area, power access, and room for guests to observe or participate. A site checklist is provided during planning.

Can branding be incorporated?

Yes. Logos, campaign colors, product motifs, and guest keepsakes can be designed into the activation.

Do you travel?

Travel is available for selected events, with logistics and costs scoped during inquiry.

Gift Cards

Can gift cards be used for classes?

Yes. Gift cards can be configured for classes, limited drops, or custom commission deposits.
